Announcing the 2008 Summer Green Team

We are done recruiting for the 2008 Summer Green Team! Interviews were held with 18 applicants at Concord High School in April. Eight Concord youth ages 14-18 will be chosen soon from a highly qualified applicant pool. The program is focused on environmental leadership and community service. Work is physical and creative, and promotes both team work and individual responsibility. This year’s theme is urban forestry.

2007 Green Team

Groundwork Concord implemented its first 7-week long Summer Green Team Program in 2007. Six Concord High School students and one Parker Academy student were chosen from an applicant pool of fifteen area high school students ages 15-18. Participants were paid for 4 hours of work Monday-Friday. They worked on various city parks and trails improvements projects. Three full days and 3 half days were committed to environmental education field trips and regional community service and learning. The Team launched the 2nd Annual Extreme Block Makeover on S. Main Street, hosting 30 Green Team volunteers from Massachusetts for a day of work, team building, and meeting city officials and leaders. The program’s major sponsor in 2007 was the law firm of Preti Flaherty, with additional support for the Extreme Block Makeover from Northeast Delta Dental and Lowe’s Local Heroes Program.
